Student registration
If you are a student living in the Winchester district, you may be able to register to vote at both your home and term-time address and vote in local elections.

Do I have to register at university?
There is no requirement for you to register at your university address and your home address.
If you do not wish to be registered at your university address, please contact us on ereg@winchester.gov.uk stating your name and address.

Can I vote at both addresses?
If your addresses are in different local government areas (your home address is outside of Winchester), you will be able to vote in local elections in both areas. To have your say on local issues.
At UK parliamentary elections and UK referendums you will need to decide where to vote, as you can only vote in one place. It is illegal to vote twice in Parliamentary elections and UK referendums.

I will not be in Winchester for the election
You can apply for a postal vote to be sent to a specified address. Alternatively you can apply for a proxy vote, so someone can vote on your behalf.

Do I need to re-register every year?
If you move accommodations/ to a house you will need to re-register as it is based on residency.

How do I register?
The easiest way is online at Register to vote - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), where you will find information about eligibility and the open register.
You may also receive an Invitation to Register to vote form, which you can fill in and return to us.
