Census 2021

The census is undertaken every 10 years and is a survey that gives the most accurate estimate of people and households in England and Wales. The most recent survey was held in 2021.

The information provided helps decide how important local services are planned and funded. These include things like schools, doctors’ surgeries, hospitals, libraries and bus routes.

The census asks questions about individuals and households and how we live. No other survey gives as much information about our society and future needs.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) is releasing datasets from Census 2021 in phases during the winter 2022/Spring 2023 and this page will be updated with the latest data as it is published.
