Climate Emergency
Winchester City Council declared a climate emergency in June 2019.
In 2025, we were assessed to be a top scoring district council in the UK in the Climate Emergency UK Action Scorecards.
The Council’s carbon footprint for 2024/25 shows that we have achieved an amazing 96% reduction in direct carbon emissions (since the baseline year of 2017/18). To find out more visit our carbon emissions page.
The short film below shows how we’ve achieved this significant reduction in our own emissions and how we plan to work towards achieving carbon neutrality across the whole district by 2030, by working with partners and community groups.
