The Stone Festival returns to Winchester Cathedral’s historic Inner Close this summer, with an exciting programme of events and activities celebrating the art of stone masonry. There is no charge to enter the Stone Festival and everyone is welcome to attend.
STONE MASONRY Masons will gather within the Inner Close of the Cathedral and carve sculptures of their own design, based around the theme “Kings and Scribes”. All carvings will be auctioned on the Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm, with the proceeds going towards the ongoing restoration works at the Cathedral.
GET INVOLVED Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the masons and discuss their individual works, have a go at carving, learn more about this ancient art and see what impact this vital work has on the life of the Cathedral today.
FOOD AND DRINK The Cathedral Refectory is the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy a delicious snack or lunchtime treat. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
