Winchester’s first ‘H-Elf’ walk is a seasonal success!
On Monday 12 December, Winchester’s weekly health walk was transformed into a Christmas ‘Elf’ walk.
Over eighty-eight participants, including the Mayor, Councillor Jane Rutter, together with the Mayoral dog Charlie, donned Christmas jumpers, hats and other festive accessories and set off from Abbey Gardens to take part in the jolly jaunt.
The walks were led by trained volunteers and covered 3 levels of ability – 1, 2 or 3 miles, with the common goal of promoting an active lifestyle. As each walk finished, the participants gathered together to enjoy mince pies and hot drinks - a festive finish to a really enjoyable event.
Maggie, a leader at the Weeke health walk said, “Thank you to Winchester City Council for organising the first Elf Walk – I am sure it will become a tradition. It was fun meeting other walkers from different groups and the mince pies were delicious”.
The popular health walks run all year round, from 7 locations across the Winchester District and are led by trained volunteers, without whom the scheme could not run.
