Local businesses learn top tips for relocation

Winchester City Council in conjunction with training provider Southern Entrepreneurs has organised a workshop for businesses located at Bury Farm estate in Curbridge.

The estate has been earmarked for change to part of the proposed housing development at North Whiteley. Winchester City Council has been working with occupiers on the estate to help them find alternative premises and offer other forms of support and guidance.

Bury Farm businesses were invited to attend to gain dedicated advice on how to identify suitable premises, managing the transition, information on leases and how to avoid typical pitfalls.

The event on Thursday 16 June, sponsored by the Horse and Jockey pub in Curbridge, was delivered by Jim Culverwell of Culverwell Consultancy, who as a former commercial agent has extensive experience of the commercial property market in the local area.

Liza Smith, Business Advisor to Bury Farm, said:

Bury Farm businesses have learnt that forward planning is the key to any businesses relocation. It is essential that any business knows exactly what they want and understands how their business might grow in the future so they can adequately prepare for a move to new premises.

Mark Crawford of Europa Furnishings said:

This event was incredibly useful and opened my eyes to the opportunities and potential risks of leases. I now feel better equipped to look for a new unit for my business.

Liza Smith is a Council officer dedicated to supporting the Bury Farm businesses through this transition process. She has already helped eight businesses find alternative accommodation. The workshop is one of a number of ways in which support is offered.
