Abbotts Barton development gets underway

Thirteen council homes are underway in Abbotts Barton, the latest in Winchester City Council’s programme to build 300 new affordable houses by 2022.

The site is located on a popular route to local schools and the perimeter fencing around it will be decorated with art work from pupils at St Bede’s school.

Cllr Caroline Horrill, Portfolio Holder for Housing Services said:

I am delighted to see work progressing on this latest Council housing scheme. We now have 92 new homes under construction which will be available next year for local families to move into. This scheme is part of the commitment for the Council to provide 300 new homes by 2022, a target we are well on the way to achieving.

The homes include 3 x 3 bedroom houses, 3 x 2 bedroom houses, 3 x 2 bedroom duplex houses as well as 4 x 1 bedroom flats and will be completed late summer 2017 by the principal contractor HH Drew Construction.

The development, as with all new Council Homes, will be built with energy efficient materials with photo voltaic panels on the roofs. They will be very economical to heat and will meet code level 4 for energy and water. In addition they are designed to be easily adapted for people with restricted mobility.
