All in a day’s work for Council housing officers
Winchester Council Housing teams are used to variety in their work – from letting homes, collecting rent, dealing with anti-social behaviour and repairing properties to helping the homeless, teams do not always know what each day has in store for them.
The latest challenge was the urgent re-homing of ‘Albert and Daisy’, two guinea pigs left in a property when their owner was taken to hospital.
The furry tenants were left unattended and were found in a sorry state.
Acting on a tip-off, Housing staff gained entry and got the animals checked over by a vet and have now arranged for them to be re-homed.
Amber Russell, the Council’s Head of Housing Management, said:
Albert and Daisy had not been well looked after. Their claws were really long and they had very swollen feet with numerous sores. They clearly enjoyed all the attention, though, and are responding well in their new home.
