Apple Appeal in Denmead this Saturday

If your apple tree is heavy with fruit and you don’t know what to do with it all, head down to Denmead Apple Festival this Saturday. The Festival takes place on Saturday 15 October from 10am until 3pm in the village centre and is all about celebrating the classic English fruit. As well as making your own apple juice using a traditional press, you can try your luck apple bobbing, taste and buy local apple produce, enjoy an apple themed barbeque and wash it all down with cider.

The event, now in its third year, was the brainchild of local independent wine shop owner Janine Pert, who has lived in the village for nearly 30 years. She said;

Denmead is a wonderful village with residents of all ages who enjoy this kind of community event, so it’s a real pleasure to be involved. The Apple Festival grows in popularity each year and we always trying to add something new. This year visitors will be able to buy fruit trees and children are invited to come and make apple monsters.

The event is supported by The Southern Co-operative, and staff from the local store will be on hand to invite visitors to try different types of British apples as well as taste varieties of locally produced Hill Farm apple juice.

The Southern Co-operative’s Retail Business Manager in Denmead, Eden Kirkby, said;

This kind of event is an excellent opportunity for all local businesses, including The Southern Co-operative, to engage with those in our community. As in previous years, we’re looking forward to talking to Denmead's residents about our locally sourced product range, Local Flavours, and getting their feedback on what sort of produce they’d like to see in our store.

The event is being organised by Winchester City Council’s Market Towns Support officer, Katherine Lemon with support from Denmead Parish Council, Denmead Horticultural Society, Denmead Scouts, Denmead Infant School PTA and several local businesses, including Discover Wine.
