Footbridge improved at North Pond, Bishop’s Waltham
Work to refurbish the attractive timber footbridge at North Pond in Bishop’s Waltham has been completed.
Deck planks were replaced and other parts of the structure refurbished in a project which started at the end of July.
Works were agreed with the Parish Council to avoid the school term and coincide with the summer holidays. The £47,000 scheme was finished by the end of August.
The work was carried out by A.D. Southern Ltd on behalf of Winchester City Council.
Local residents have told the City Council they are delighted with the high standard of the finished bridge and were pleased that the work was carried out in a quiet and efficient manner.
One told the Parish Council:
Please could you pass on my thanks to all who were responsible for the improvements to the causeway linking St Bonnet Drive and the Duke’s Mill car park to the B3035?
My heart sank when it was closed, but doing without it for a short period is well worth it to enjoy such an excellent job.
Part of the old bridge has found an unusual new use after a local resident whose wife loved to use the bridge asked if he could have one of the planks to make a plinth for her grave.
