Ghosts Haunt Alresford for Spooky Half Term Fun
Ghoulish ghosts will be haunting Alresford town centre from Saturday 22 to 29 October as part of the annual Alresford Ghost Hunt. This free activity encourages families to explore Alresford town centre during half term, hunting for ghosts but finding much more in the process.
The ghosts have been designed by the pupils at Sun Hill Infant and Junior Schools. With over 60 fang-tastic entries for this year’s competition, the Alresford Art Society had the difficult job of judging the best ghost from each year group. The 18 winners will have their ghost displayed in Alresford town centre as part of the Ghost Hunt trail.
The goal for “ghost hunters” is to follow the trail around Alresford town centre, and when they find a ghost, write down the accompanying letter on the trail sheet. Everyone who completes the spook-tacular trail will receive a Halloween treat and will also be entered into a prize draw. Winners will be selected at random from the witch’s hat with some excellent prizes including a family ticket for the Mid Hants Watercress Line and a £10 voucher for Ragamuffin Clothing shop. All prizes have been kindly donated by local businesses in Alresford.
The Ghost Hunt aims to bring families into Alresford town centre over the half term holiday but is also an opportunity for local businesses, organisations and the schools to work together. It has been organised by Winchester City Council’s Market Towns Development team as part of a programme of activities designed to increase footfall and further develop collaborative working among local community groups.

Trail sheets have been distributed to local schools and can also be collected from participating shops such as Ragamuffin, Oakleaf Stationery, Billy Goat, Dave’s Fish and Chips and the library. All of the entries for the ghost picture competition will be on display in Alresford library during half term taking pride of place in the children’s book display.
