Award for Winchester’s animal welfare
Winchester’s animal welfare service has received a pat on the back from the RSPCA.The City Council’s warden team has been awarded the Gold ‘Stray Dog Footprint’ award in the charity’s Community Animal Welfare Footprint (CAWF) awards for 2016.
This follows a recent Silver ‘Animal Establishments Licensing Footprint’ award.
The awards are run by the RSPCA to recognise organisations that go above and beyond basic requirements to ensure higher welfare standards for animals in the services they provide.
The RSPCA works closely with local authorities, the police and housing associations to help them deliver animal welfare services. This year they received a large number of entries at a higher standard than ever for the scheme which was launched in 2008.
Cllr Stephen Godfrey, the Leader of Winchester City Council, said:
I was delighted to receive news of this award from the RSPCA which recognises the high level at which our animal welfare team is working.
Congratulations to the team who can justly claim to be one of the leaders in animal welfare in Hampshire.
A reception for winners will be held by the RSPCA in London on 30 November 2016. The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and local MPs have been invited to attend.
