Winchester City Council tenants enjoy festive party

A special Christmas party for Council tenants saw more than 100 people getting into the Christmas spirit at Winchester’s Holiday Inn hotel. Transport was laid on by Wessex Cars to enable tenants from the Council’s 12 sheltered housing schemes attend the event.
The tenants, many of whom are pensioners, enjoyed a Christmas meal and took part in a seasonal quiz with raffle prizes donated by local construction company Osborne. There was also music by jazz singer Amy Baker and Winnall Primary School’s choir - the festive songs proved to be a hit with tenants.
Winchester City Council’s Tenant Involvement Team regularly organise entertainment to encourage residents from the sheltered schemes to get out of their flats and socialise.
Cllr Caroline Horrill, the City Council’s Leader and Portfolio Holder for Housing said:
Events like this reduce isolation and encourage older people to socialise and have fun. We have a programme of social activity throughout the year to help reduce loneliness - particularly pertinent at Christmas time for those who live alone with no family. I hope that this event will have raised a smile for many.
