Local Plan for the Winchester District passes inspection

Winchester City Council welcomes receipt of the Inspector’s Report to Local Plan Part 2, which has been found ’sound’ following independent inspection and can now proceed to adoption providing more certainty for the District’s communities and businesses.

Local Plan Part 2 together with Local Plan Part 1 provides strong positive planning policy for the District, setting out areas for growth and those to be protected, together with a comprehensive suite of policies to guide individual planning applications.

Cllr Vicki Weston, Portfolio Holder for Built Environment, said:

This is great news, Winchester now has a full set of planning policies to guide development up to 2031. We have managed to get another local plan through a long regulated process by engaging early and fully with our communities and listening to their views and taking on board their suggestions. To have this level of planning guidance for our residents and businesses means we can be confident in defending rogue planning applications that do not accord with our policies. This is a very positive step to ensure that the Winchester District remains an attractive place to live and work. We are very fortunate to be in this position, but would not have achieved this without the dedication, determination and hard work of our officers.
