Bus station improvements will make a difference to community says Council Leader
Cllr Caroline Horrill, leader of Winchester City Council, has revealed more information around plans to improve Winchester’s bus station.
Speaking on That’s Hampshire TV, Cllr Horrill outlined the positive impacts that the project is expected to bring to the public realm in a busy area for residents, commuters and visitors. The bus station will undergo a series of modernisations that will see a dilapidated building removed and safety improvements introduced. The area is also set to benefit from the decision to allow the ‘meanwhile use’ of existing frontages that could see pop up shops, start up businesses and creative hubs benefit from the high footfall around the station.
Cllr Horrill commented,
The bus station improvements are all about delivering real benefits to the 65,000 local people who use Winchester’s bus services each week. We will see the introduction of enhanced real time traffic information, better safety for pedestrians and an improved public realm in this important transport hub for the county. Importantly we are ensuring that our public transport is invested in – which has benefits for the environment as well as the community.
