Have your say on Winchester’s waste
Winchester residents are being encouraged to have their say on how waste and recycling, street cleaning, grounds maintenance and public toilets should be managed by contributing to a consultation that will run until Friday 14 July.
The current Joint Environmental Service Contract, provided by Biffa and idverde on behalf of Winchester City Council (WCC) and East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), will expire in October 2019 and both councils are keen to hear residents’ views on the different options.
The two councils are committed to working together on any future contract and can choose to deliver the services in a variety of ways, each of which have their own opportunities and challenges. There is a document setting out the strengths and potential weaknesses of the four options available. Once residents have considered the options, a response can be completed online.
Paper copies of the consultation document are available from Winchester City Council’s Customer Service Centre on Colebrook Street.
Public responses will be taken into account before a final decision is made.
Leader of Winchester City Council, Councillor Caroline Horrill, said:
The end of a contract of this size is an opportunity to take stock and assess our future options. Our relationship with EHDC has been really positive during the contract with Biffa and idverde and we are very happy to be working together on the new contract. As two neighbouring councils we have been able to run the contract in an efficient way, recognising the differences between the needs of residents in each area.
