Winchester Criterium and Cyclefest set to turn city streets green this weekend
On Sunday 11 June, roads in Winchester’s iconic City centre will temporarily close to welcome 300 riders across all age categories taking part in the 5th Winchester Criterium and Cyclefest.
The 1km circuit race will see the best local riders battling it out to become the South Region Circuit Race champions.
And it’s not all about the racing – the whole event is a fun, family-orientated day, beginning with the South Downs National Park Family ride at 10am,- 500 riders will have the opportunity to ride around the centre of Winchester in a traffic-free environment.
We want our families to ‘GO GREEN’ for the day,
said Amanda Ford, Head of Sport and Physical Activity for Winchester City Council –
so we’re encouraging family ride participants to decorate their bikes and wear green. We’ll also have a park & cycle facility at the South Park & Ride, whilst Barfield and St Catherine’s are offering a free park and ride bus service just a short distance away.
The Broadway will be a hive of activity, with a demo bike area with Hargroves Cycles, toddler bike races, BMX stunt show, and the opportunity to learn some BMX tricks from the experts. Nearby, you can “Discover the South Downs National Park” in Abbey Gardens, where a range of countryside crafts and activities will be available. Residents are encouraged to along, park their bikes, make use Winchester’s great range of shops, bars and restaurants, and enjoy the day.
