Council’s shared home ownership scheme at Victoria Court now open
A unique opportunity to live in the heart of Winchester and take a first step on the property ladder is being offered by a new help-to-buy shared ownership scheme for properties at Winchester City Council’s new development at Victoria Court. The scheme is now open with prices starting at £118,000 for a 40 percent share in a two-bedroom apartment.
Shared ownership works by offering residents the chance to buy a share in their new home while paying an affordable monthly rent towards the remaining portion, which is owned by Winchester City Council. Residents can then opt to buy more shares in the property until they are eventually able to own it outright.
Leader of Winchester City Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Caroline Horrill, said:
We want people to be able to buy their own homes in Winchester and the district without breaking the bank. There is a real demand for housing, and our shared ownership scheme means we can offer people an affordable way of eventually owning a home. It is one of the many ways that we as a council are actively providing different housing options for our residents.
Each home at Victoria Court is allocated one parking space. The development benefits from being very close to Winchester railway station as well as just a ten-minute walk into the city centre.
Victoria Court is due to be completed in January 2018. To express an interest in the scheme please ensure you register with Help to Buy South and also email sales@winchester.gov.uk or call 01962 848 075.
