Walking Netball Returns to Winchester
Following the success of the walking netball sessions earlier this year, Winchester City Council - in partnership with England Netball - is pleased to announce the re-launch of the sessions at River Park Leisure Centre.
Walking netball is a slowed down version of the game with adapted rules to suit all abilities and ages within a relaxed, fun and social environment. It is a fantastic way to introduce the sport to those who have never played before and for those who may have suffered past injuries.
The weekly sessions cost just £3 per person and are running now every Monday from 1.00 - 2.00pm. They are led by a friendly walking netball host who will meet you at the Leisure Centre’s reception. There is no need to book – just show up on the day to play.
Cllr Lisa Griffiths, Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing said,
This initiative is a fantastic way to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, not only does this have huge social benefits but also provides an opportunity for ex-players to return to the sport.
Debbie Spindlow, Netball Development Officer for England Netball, said
We’ve seen huge successes in walking netball with hundreds of people across the country getting involved. Some of them haven’t played for years and some have experienced injuries or mobility issues. Walking Netball is a slower paced version of the game, with a couple of other modifications to ensure it is safe for those with mobility issues, lower fitness and activity levels. All sessions are delivered by trained Walking Netball Hosts who know how to make the session’s fun and engaging - you won’t realise just how hard you have worked as you will be laughing so much!
