Authentic Bavarian festival returns to Winchester

The success of last year’s Bavarian food and drink festival, Oktoberfest, is set to be repeated when it returns to Guildhall’s Bapsy Hall in Winchester on 15 September.

The historic hall will be filled with authentic German food and drink while the popular Oktoberfest band, Oompah Brass, will treat attendees to another year of entertainment.

Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Business Partnerships, and Economy and Arts, Cllr Rob Humby said:

“Guildhall Winchester continues to be a hub for exciting events like this. The historic Bapsy Hall is ideal for Oktoberfest, and it shows how the council continues to promote cultural vibrancy in the district.”

Guildhall Winchester General Manager Chris Smith said:

“We are excited to welcome back Oktoberfest for the third year and are confident this year will be just as fun and entertaining as in previous years.”

According to the official Oktoberfest website, the first event of its kind was held in 1810 in Munich to celebrate royal wedding.  The residents of the city were invited to join the party in the fields in front of the city gates where they enjoyed food, beer, parades, music and a horse race.

The festival has been celebrated in Munich ever since and is now celebrated as far afield as Brazil and Zambia. The largest event outside Germany is held in Ontario, Canada.

Tickets are available to buy now for the event which starts at 8pm, they are available from http://www.guildhallwinchester.co.uk/events/details/270/ or by calling 01962 840500.
