New public car park plan tabled for The Dean in Alresford

In a move to create more car parking spaces for residents and visitors coming to Alresford, Winchester City Council’s Cabinet has approved a proposal to develop a new public car park at the Dean which could provide up to 47 parking spaces.

The plans are part of aims set out in Winchester City Council’s Local Plan Part 2 to regenerate The Dean and increase parking capacity. The £1m scheme would involve the Council buying a site for development.

Cllr Steve Miller, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Estates, said:

This could support Alresford’s local economy by improving the range of parking available. It sits in the context of a broader Masterplan to regenerate The Dean.

A portion of the necessary funds would come from Winchester City Council’s Strategic Asset Fund which is intended to assist the Council in becoming financially self-sufficient as Central Government funding diminishes.
