The Mayor of Winchester’s Community Awards 2017/18

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr David McLean, has announced the launch of the Winchester District Community Awards for 2017/18.

Now a firm fixture in the city’s diary, the Mayor’s Awards recognise and celebrate the organisations and individuals who give outstanding service to the people and places of the Winchester District.

As in previous years, the emphasis is firmly on voluntary action.  However, there is also scope to pay tribute to those who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty during the course of their paid employment.

Cllr McLean said,

The aim of these awards is to celebrate the selfless activity that brightens the lives of many residents, and makes our district such a wonderful place in which to live. This year I am particularly pleased to introduce the new Youth Awards.  This will be held earlier in the evening ahead of the adult ceremony, aimed specifically at the under 16’s and we would like to encourage schools and youth groups to nominate some of their young people.

Anyone can nominate individuals and organisations, and the Mayor is keen to ensure that the awards reflect the full range of community activity from all corners of the Winchester District.

To make a nomination you can contact your District Councillor or Local Parish Council with details of your nominee/s so that they can submit the nomination on your behalf for consideration by the selection panel.  You can find the contact details of your District Councillor or Local Parish Council on the Winchester City Council website.

Alternatively you can nominate somebody direct, using the on-line form at http://www.winchester.gov.uk/communityawards

The closing date for nominations is Friday 2 February 2018 and the nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony on Wednesday 21 March,  If you wish to discuss your nomination or any aspect of the Mayor of Winchester’s Community Awards, please contact The Mayor’s Secretary on 01962 848 259 or email Mayorssecretary@winchester.gov.uk
