New parish council for West of Waterlooville moves a step closer
Plans to create a new parish council for the West of Waterlooville area has reached another significant milestone.
Councillors on Winchester City Council’s Licensing and Regulation Committee recommended arrangements for the new council to serve the West of Waterlooville Major Development Area (MDA).
The news comes after hundreds of residents took part in two rounds of consultation. In the second round more than a third of the residents who took part in the consultation called for the name of the council to be Newlands, and 87% of respondents called for it to be a parish council.
Conservative City Council Portfolio Holder for professional services, Cllr Stephen Godfrey said:
This is an important landmark that takes us to the final stage before the Parish of Newlands can be formed.
We took the time to listen carefully to what our residents had to say and I am delighted that so many engaged with us throughout the consultation over governance arrangements for the West of Waterlooville area.
The recommendations will be considered at full council later in the year.
It is proposed that the new council will be formed on 1 April 2019 and elections for members will be held in May 2019.
