Vintage tea party brings Winchester City Council tenants together

Vintage tea party 2018

Dozens of Winchester City Council tenants took a nostalgic trip back in time at a vintage tea party held in Twyford on May 30.

More than 50 people attended the event at Twyford Village Hall where they enjoyed sandwiches, tea and cake.

It was organised to help reduce social isolation amongst older residents,by giving them a chance to share memories and socialise. The party was hosted by Tenant Community Champions and Winchester City Council Tenant Involvement, it was supported by Osborne Property Services and Tesco who provided donations and raffle prizes.

Council apprentices ensured the party ran smoothly by serving refreshments while entertainment was provided by Amy Baker who sung hits from the 1940s, and there was also a ukulele band.

Attending was Conservative Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Lisa Griffiths, who said:

This event is one of the many ways we’re trying to reduce social isolation among our older tenants. We are aware it’s an issue for the elderly and I hope that our guests made new friendships and will remember the day as something different and fun.

I had a fantastic time meeting our residents at this party which really showcased the differences that can be made to people’s lives by listening to what they have to say and offering them an opportunity to get out of the house and share memories. I know the council’s apprentices and tenant involvement team were very pleased by the obvious delight of the guests who attended, and it was nice that it was a community affair with donations and raffle prizes from local companies looking to take an active interest in residents’ welfare.
