Winchester City Council publishes results of a review of sports pitches across the district

A Playing Pitch Strategy (PPS) implemented by Winchester City Council has looked at the number and standard of sports pitches across the district and whether any improvements are required.

Developed with key sporting bodies and with feedback from local sports clubs, the potential use of pitches to 2031 has been considered. The strategy makes a number of recommendations to improve and maintain the quality of pitches.

New pitches will be put in at major housing developments in the district, including ones at Kings Barton, North Whiteley and West of Waterlooville. By improving the standard of existing pitches, any shortfalls in the number of pitches can be addressed as more matches can be played on them without damaging the quality of the pitch.

Cllr Jan Warwick, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said:

We know that we have a number of much loved pitches that are being used by sports teams across the district.

This strategy will help improve the quality of our sports facilities which we hope will encourage more people to enjoy the benefits of playing sport.
