Residents choose Newlands as most popular name for new council for West of Waterlooville

A new council for the West of Waterlooville has moved a step closer after residents had their say in a consultation.

More than a third of the residents who took part in the consultation called for the name of the council to be Newlands, and 87% called for it to be a parish council.

It is part of a review into future parish council arrangements in the Denmead, Southwick and Widley areas and the West of Waterlooville area which is currently the centre of major development of homes.

Conservative City Council Portfolio Holder for professional services, Cllr Stephen Godfrey said:

It is exciting to see a new council develop which will serve the residents of the West of Waterlooville area.

This is an example of how we are engaging and listening to people to ensure they have a council that meets their needs.

The consultation will feed into a report to be considered by Winchester City Council’s Licensing and Regulation Committee on June 14.

It is proposed that the new council will be formed on 1 April 2019 and elections for members will be held in May 2019.
