Hundreds of children from local primary schools have taken part in the annual schools’ Tri-Golf Festival at Winchester Golf Academy organised by Winchester City Council.

Otterbourne Primary School was the winner of the year 3/4 category. In second place was Sparsholt Primary School and St Peter’s Catholic Primary School came in third.   In a clean sweep, Otterbourne also won the year 5/6 category, with second place going to St Bede and Twyford taking third. The winners and runners up will represent Winchester at the Hampshire School Games in June.

Many of the children involved in the competition had previously taken part in a Council-run six week Tri-Golf project at their school which introduced around 700 pupils to the sport.

Councillor Lisa Griffiths, Conservative Portfolio Holder for Sport and Physical Activity said:

It was wonderful to be at the event and see young people engaging in a sport which could introduce them to new skills as well as improve their wellbeing and fitness.  Congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you to the council’s Sport & Physical Activity team for organising the festival, the volunteers who helped make it such a success and to Winchester Golf Academy for hosting the event.

Students from Peter Symonds College, Sparsholt College and The Henry Beaufort School volunteered to help at the festival.
