With a mix of funding from Central Government, Winchester City Council and Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council, Bishop’s Waltham has been able to spearhead the recruitment of a Market Towns Development Officer.
The results are already evident – as well as the addition of several engaging events throughout the year, the Town Team has been successful in creating a new brand for the Town, developing a very popular Facebook page, and starting a monthly eNewsletter detailing all the goings on in Bishop's Waltham each month.
pmdc design (www.pmdc.co.uk), located in the nearby village of Droxford, has kindly developed an exciting new identity for Bishop’s Waltham. The www.lovebishopswaltham.com website informs locals and visitors alike on what there is to see, do, eat and buy in our market town.
Maintaining and enhancing the unique character of Bishop’s Waltham
The Town Team has four central objectives of which this is one. Under this objective, we will be applying for grants from various sources to allow us to enhance Bishop’s Waltham’s cultural features. The main heritage site is of course the Palace, and we want to make the Palace grounds as visible, accessible and appealing as possible to locals and visitors alike. The Parish Council has already taken one big step towards achieving this goal by agreeing with English Heritage to extend the opening hours of the grounds. The Town Team is going to work on ways of improving the appearance of the grounds and their perimeter and making them shout, “Come on in and have a look around!”
