Playing Out in Winchester
Make your street a fun place to play
Playing Out is a parent and resident-led movement restoring children’s freedom to play out in the streets and spaces where they live, for their health, happiness and sense of belonging, including temporary road closures. The national organisation provides free resources and advice for residents to enable these Play Streets.
The official Playing Out website provides all you need to start regular ‘playing out’ sessions on your street, which outlines a simple four-step guide to follow and includes information on obtaining the support of, and permission from, your neighbours. The website also includes other actions to spark change where you live and ideas, stories and inspiration gathered from people around the UK and beyond. For a brief introduction, watch this short video. As well as instructional videos and a step-by-step 'manual for organisers', you can download template posters and other materials or contact them directly for advice.
The Community team at Winchester City Council are also on-hand to support your community to implement this fun initiative within your street. We can offer some general advice or if necessary meet you on site to discuss your proposal. For further advice and information please contact us here.
