Business Fire Safety
The consequences of a fire can be devastating so it is important that businesses consider the risk. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 introduced new requirements on the 1st October 2006 in respect of fire safety within work premises. For further advice on fire safety you should contact Hampshire Fire and Rescue or visit their website: hantsfire.gov.uk
Employers and persons in control of a premises have a duty to ensure that a fire risk assessment is carried out. Hampshire fire and rescue have produced some guidance to help businesses carry out a fire risk assessment. It is also important to ensure that your employees have suitable training in what to do in the event of a fire
A new publication called "Do you have Paying Guests?" has been issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government and seeks to address difficulties that the hospitality industry, specifically bed and breakfasts, guest houses and self catering properties, have faced in understanding the new rules. It explains the risk assessment process, sets out sources of further advice and guidance and offers some practical information for owners on what may represent appropriate and proportionate fire safety measures in these types of premises.
