General Alterations

Conservation areas are designated in place in order to preserve or enhance character and appearance including significant  local distinctiveness of an area. In some cases this can lead to additional planning measures, these often focus on works affecting external appearance of builings or the surrounding landscape.

For information regarding works affecting the landscape of areas within a conservation area please refer to the guidance through the following links:

Permitted Development rights differ slightly within a conservation area meaning that Planning Permission may be required for some developmental works which would otherwise not require it.  Information regarding Permitted Development rights can be found via the Historic England page linked on the side of this page and guidance by the Planning Portal.
