Design Review Panel

Deisgn Review Panels are small multidisciplinary groups of professionals offering detailed design advice and provide an independent, expert assessment of significant proposal. These panels have now become established as an integral part of the planning process as a tested system of ensuring good design practice. The process ensures impartial, independent and constructive advice for a wide range of development proposals and occurs before the submission of a planning application.

The National Design Review is now operated by CABE through the Design Council. Proposals for the Design Review can be submitted on a Sub-Regional or Regional Design Review Panel. Information regarding these can be found through the links on the side of this page.

Winchester has a very long history of involvement with the Design Review Panel. The local panel, Winchester and Eastleigh Design Review Panel (previously known as the Architects Panel), has existed for almost thirty years. Over this period, Winchester City Council has referred numerous schemes and proposals to the Design Review Panels at National, Regional South East Regional Design Review Panel Sub-Regional (Hampshire Advisory Panel of Architects and Local level).

The importance of the Design Review Panel is emphasised through the National Planning Policy Framework in Paragraph 129, which can be found on the side of this page.
