Winchester district visit by Government Minister
The Government Minister for Local Growth, James Wharton MP, visited Havant Plaza to discuss Hampshire's devolution bid with the leaders of the Hampshire districts who drove home the need for Government's commitment to the county’s infrastructure needs.
He then went on to visit two key sites, one at Dunsbury Hill Business Park in Havant Borough and also Berewood (Waterlooville Major Development Area) partly in Havant and partly in the Winchester district.
James Wharton MP visited the Berewood site where he was shown around the two developments currently underway: the Bloor Development and the Redrow Development, along with the new school, which received £1m from developer contributions.
The Berewood development is a new community of 3,000 dwellings, employment land and associated physical and social infrastructure which has been comprehensively planned.
Cllr Godfrey, the Leader of Winchester City Council, said:
It is important that the Minister for Local Growth is able to see for himself the work that we are undertaking to provide homes and communities for our district and also to take this opportunity to highlight and stress the need for infrastructure investment if we are to progress development.
