Chickens on the loose in Denmead!
Children are being invited to explore Denmead Village Centre on Saturday 8 April by taking part in this year’s Denmead Chicken Run. The free, family event, taking place from 10am-3pm, involves participants hunting for chickens hidden around the village and also features community stalls, an Easter egg tombola, prize draw and craft activity.
The hidden chickens are pictures drawn by children from Denmead Junior School as part of a school art competition. Participants will need to find all 20 chickens to win an Easter treat. The event also coincides with the BBC Get Creative Weekend and children will be able to join in an egg-citing free craft activity decorating a paper maché egg.
Denmead Chicken Run is being coordinated by Market Towns Development Officers at Winchester City Council with the aim of bringing families into the village centre and encouraging them to use the local shops and learn more about local organisations. With financial support from The Southern Co-operative, the event will also rely on volunteer help from the Denmead Infant School PTA, Denmead Parish Council and local businesses.
Andreea Tudor, Community and Campaigns Co-ordinator at The Southern Cooperative said:
We are proud to sponsor this great event which brings together so many community groups and is enjoyed by so many local people each year.
In addition to the Chicken Run on 8 April, artwork from a Humpty Dumpty art competition at Denmead Primary School will be also on display in shop windows of local businesses from 8-22 April.
Chicken Run hunt sheets can be collected on the day from the stand in the village centre. For more information about this event visit the Love Denmead Facebook page.
