Consultation launches on vision for Station Approach

Winchester City Council, Network Rail, and London & Continental Railways (LCR) are exploring potential opportunities for regeneration in the area known as Station Approach and whether a viable, local and community driven vision can be developed on their respective land.  A consultation on this vision has been launched and local residents and businesses are being encouraged to share their views.

Regeneration of the Station Approach area with a sustainable mixed-use development has potential to contribute to a vibrant, green economy that revitalises the urban environment with the aim to create welcoming space for those that live locally, travel from the station or visit our City.

Cllr Martin Tod, Leader of Winchester City Council, said:

“This is a great opportunity. It will help us strengthen green travel and connect the station, city and the wider area better. It can support future ways of working and living in our city.  And it can do so in a way that respects the city and all the things that are special about it.”

Local residents and businesses are now warmly invited to share their thoughts on the future of the Station Approach area. A website has been launched – www.winchesterstationapproach.co.uk – which features an interactive map for comments as well an online survey. A newsletter is being sent to over 5,000 homes near to Station Approach to set out details of how to contribute ideas and all information will be available on the Council’s website at the start of August.

To request a paper copy of the newsletter or survey please email info@winchesterstationapproach.co.uk or call 0800 148 8911.

Two consultation events are also planned in the Autumn. The first is on Thursday 15 September from 2-7pm, outside the main entrance to the station, and the second on Saturday 24 September from 10 – 2pm in a market stall on the high street.

The consultation will run for twelve weeks, concluding on Friday 21st October 2022.
