Don’t miss the opportunity to sign up for this year’s Winchester Paralympic Personal Bests event.
The annual one-day event, which is organised by Winchester City Council and Winchester Go LD in partnership with Everyone Active and the University of Winchester, is an opportunity for adults and children aged 10 and above with learning and physical disabilities to take part in various sports activities.
Paralympic Personal Bests started in 2012 to celebrate the success of the London Paralympic Games and has grown from 33 participants in its first year to 146 in 2022.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday 14 September 2023 in Winchester Sport and Leisure Park and in the University of Winchester sports stadium. Activities on offer this year include rugby, football, swimming, athletics, low-level circuits, cricket, racquet sports and mindfulness activities.
In attendance will be 20-year-old swimmer Maisie Summers-Newton, a double Paralympic champion, world champion, European champion and Commonwealth champion in S6 events, including Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham last summer. On the day, she’ll present the medals and certificates in addition to cheering on participants as they compete.
Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Engagement Cllr Kathleen Becker said:
“This fantastic event has gone from strength to strength since it began. It offers an incredibly rewarding opportunity for those with additional needs to take part in sport, including new mindfulness activities, in local venues – I can’t wait to attend!”
Betty Chadwick, CEO of Winchester Go LD, said
"The Paralympic Personal Bests is a big day in the Winchester Go LD calendar - we're really looking forward to it! We love being involved in lots of different sports and experiencing the fantastic sense of community that this event brings."
