The tree was planted on Tuesday 13 June 2023 by the Mayor of Winchester Cllr Angela Clear, who was joined by Chief Executive Laura Taylor, Leader of the Council Martin Tod and council staff as she cut the ribbon and added the first spadefuls of soil.

The tree, a green beech suited to the chalky soil conditions, has been planted in the newly refurbished sustainable play area in the gardens.

A commemorative plaque at its base includes the official Coronation logo and reads: “In celebration of the King’s Coronation – Winchester City Council”.
