New opportunities for grant-funded community projects
Applications are currently open for the latest rounds of grant funding.
The Town Forum Small Grant scheme and District Small Grant schemes both provide one-off grants of up to £1,000 to local groups and organisations who may need new equipment, start-up assistance or help with events and activities in their communities.
The Project Grant Scheme offers grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 for town-based projects benefiting residents in the five unparished wards in Winchester town.
Charity DentAid, which runs pop-up dental clinics supporting homeless people and vulnerable adults in partnership with Trinity Winchester, previously received a Town Forum Small Grant enabling clinics to take place. These supported 27 individuals from January and April this year, providing a total of 156 specific treatments.
DentAid’s fundraising manager Peter Burch said: “Through the clinics this grant has enabled, we were able to provide a full range of dental services, including tooth extractions, for vulnerable adults. In many cases this work can be a catalyst for reducing drug and alcohol misuse, and it can open up more options for these individuals to look for employment and accommodation.”
Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Engagement and Town Forum councillor Cllr Kathleen Becker said:
“It’s fantastic to hear how our grants are having an impact across our communities and helping to improve the lives of our residents. We’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch with the team to find out more about how their group or organisation could potentially benefit, too.”
Help and advice with applications will be offered at a funding surgery on Monday 9 October, 2-4pm at St Peter’s Church, Jewry Street, and during an online support session on Tuesday 17 October 9.30am-11.30am. Both events can be signed up to via EventBrite.
