District creatives showcased in new Winchester art trail
A new Visit Winchester leaflet shines a spotlight on the local makers and creatives across the district taking part in Hampshire Open Studios.
The Winchester District Art Trail, part of Visit Winchester’s Made in Winchester campaign, highlights all of the galleries and studios participating in this year’s annual art event, which takes place from 17-26 August.
More than 40 art studios and galleries will be available to visit free of charge, and this leaflet will assist locals and visitors as they explore venues in the city centre and across the wider district, including market towns and villages.
Visit Winchester commissioned Hampshire Open Studios to create the trail, which has been funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Trail leaflets will be available from the Visitor Information Centre and other public venues across Winchester. Artists will also have copies, and a digital version will be available from the Visit Winchester website: www.visitwinchester.co.uk/made-in-winchester/
Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business and Culture Councillor Lucille Thompson said:
“There are so many talented local makers, producers, independent businesses and creatives across our district. Many are tucked away down a side street or nestled in the back garden of someone’s home, and this Winchester District Art Trail will be a hugely valuable guide to locating them and finding out more about their work.
“Winchester City Council is delighted to be able to support Hampshire Open Studios and the artists involved in it, via our Visit Winchester team. The district is rich in history and heritage; it’s a wonderful place to see creatives in action, and to support them and their work.”
Lesley Self, Creative Director of Hampshire Open Studios said:
"Collaborating this year with Visit Winchester is a fantastic opportunity for artists to showcase their work across the district. We encourage visitors to try out this new trail, take a day out, and see some of the best artistic talents the region has to offer."
