Nutrient Neutrality - Nitrates and Phosphates

Nutrient neutrality aims to prevent new developments from causing an increase in nutrient pollution - namely nitrates and phosphorous - in our waterways (rivers.)

Excessive nutrients can cause plant and algae growth which can disrupt wildlife leaving a risk that we could lose species of birds, fish or more.

Developers must demonstrate their project won't add to the exisitng nutrients - there are various mitigation measures that are possible.
