Your community engagement

The new National Design Guide 2019 sets out how local communities play a vital role in achieving well-designed places and buildings making sure there is a relationship between the built environment and quality of life.

Winchester City Council’s ‘Statement of Community Involvement in Planning’ sets out the Council’s approach to involving people in planning matters, whether residents, businesses, visitors or wider stakeholders such as statutory consultees. It provides guidance on how people can get involved and comment on planning applications and was recently adopted in December 2018.

Developers are encouraged to carry out their own consultation in the area where they are planning new development prior to the submission of a planning application. Local knowledge can often assist in identifying planning issues which can be incorporated into early design stage prior to the submission of an application. It is particularly useful to engage with local parish councils and ward members and the immediate neighbours of a site at an early stage of proposals.
