Background work with parishes on LPP2

Background work with parishes on LPP2

The Local Plan Part 1 establishes various development requirements for the District’s larger settlements. These include the following levels of housing provision from 2011 to 2031:

  • Winchester - 4000 dwellings (including 2000 at Barton Farm
  • Whiteley - 3500 dwellings (all at North Whiteley)
  • Bishops Waltham - 500 dwellings
  • New Alresford - 500 dwellings
  • Colden Common - 250 dwellings
  • Denmead - 250 dwellings
  • Kingsworthy - 250 dwellings
  • Swanmore - 250 dwellings
  • Waltham Chase - 250 dwellings
  • Wickham - 250 dwellings

The Plan also supports the retention and improvement of employment, public transport, facilities and services in these settlements, as well as containing standards for the provision of open space and built recreation facilities. Local Plan Part 2 (LPP2) refines these requirements for each settlement and decides whether land needs to be allocated to meet them, having assessed local needs and potential sites.

The City Council has worked with communities to identify their development needs in more detail and to explore which sites, if any, should be allocated to meet these needs. A Neighbourhood Plan is being produced for Denmead, whereas other communities have worked with the Council to contribute to LPP2 (the development management policies of LPP2 also cover Denmead).

Below are links to pages on each of the larger settlements that have a housing target, where more information can be found on the work undertaken by the City Council and local communities to develop Local Plan Part 2 (except for Whiteley where requirements are dealt with through the allocation of the North Whiteley area in LPP1).
